Little bites in Lisbon: 4 kid-friendly restaurants to explore

We've been soaking up Lisbon vibes for about a month now, and let me tell you, it's been quite the adventure—especially when it comes to finding kid-friendly spots to grab a bite. We love eating out, but 95% of restaurants just turn into a nightmare with squirrelly kids. And after 30 painful minutes, you get the bill and wonder why you've flushed that money away. SO, we're always looking for spots that have some form of entertainment for kids, to make dining more enjoyable for everyone.

So far, we’ve stumbled upon a few gems, particularly for families with little kids:

First up, Fable. This is a book-lover’s dream. As someone who doesn’t speak Portuguese (but I am working on it!), I really miss taking my kids to libraries. We only brought about 10 books to Lisbon with us and I can no longer handle reading Spidey & Friends for the 90th time. Fable has a little kids book section downstairs, where you can stock up on a few books to get you through your travels! When it comes to food they have magical blue greek yogurt we've affectionately dubbed "unicorn yogurt." And it's not just about the kids—there's plenty to keep the adults happy too, from healthy wraps and vegan options to delicious desserts (deconstructed twix!) and a solid coffee and tea selection.

Next on the list is Pão de Canela (translates to cinnamon bread, cute!). It’s nestled in a charming square, and the food here is top-notch. But, the reason it’s on the list is the front patio that's a mere 10 feet away from a little playground. You can actually enjoy your meal (and maybe a glass of wine) while the kiddos play within view. Such a rare find.

Then there's APF. APF, where have you been all my parenting life? Located in hilly  Lapa, this spot is a kiddie paradise with a play area loaded with toys, a trampoline, playhouses, and more. The tables aren’t next to the play area BUT for just 5 euros, you can use their in-house caretaker option. Or for very little kids (or those with separation anxiety) you can always bring your drink downstairs while they play.

And last but not least, let's talk about the Time Out Market. This mercado has at least 15 restaurants serving up everything from traditional Portuguese dishes to burgers, tarts, gelato and more. There's something for everyone. Plus, the outdoor market is in a square, with a playground in the middle. One parent watches kids, the other gets to shop. The best.

So, there you have it—my go-to list for family-friendly dining in Lisbon that won't disappoint. Enjoy!
